Olaf planned a weekend for us in Berlin, to coincide with his Monday business meetings.
The last time we visited Berlin together was in 2006. Olaf was living in Frankfurt, finishing his last year of college. I came to visit for six weeks, which turned into three months. We took lots of weekend trips, mostly to other cities in Germany. The most painful trip, by far, was to Berlin. It was freezing, below zero. Everything was grey and covered in ice. I couldn't feel my feet when we were outside, so we were constantly ducking into buildings to defrost.
This trip was much more enjoyable. The weather was perfect, in the high 60's, and the city was lush and green. We spent many hours walking through the Tiergarten, which I just loved. Sunday morning we went on a run around and through the park. It was by far the best run I have had for months.
We were up at 3am to catch a 6am flight to Berlin, so in these pictures we were very tired. We managed ourselves though, and didn't let the crankiness come between us (which is always really hard!).
Nice, wide, gravel running path :) |
Olaf found us a special deal at the Hotel Adlon, right next to the Brandenburger Tor (gate) |
A big Ritter Sport shop. They had a "chocolate bar" where you could pick mix-ins and they would make you a custom chocolate bar. |
We had a really good time at this place, the Cafe am Neuen See in the Tiergarten. There is a big beer garden and a cafe. We visited both. |
